How Do I Change a Return I Have Already Filed?
To make changes to 2004 personal tax filings, individuals should not file an
amended tax return. Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) prefers that
individual taxpayers who wish make changes to returns, use form T1-ADJ
(Adjustment Request), available at local tax services offices or on the CCRA
Web site.
On this form, an individual would describe the nature of the change, the lines
of the affected tax return items and the amount of change to that line item.
To support the change request, appropriate receipts, statements or other
relevant information must be included with the request. Send the adjustment
request to the same taxation center where the annual tax return was filed.
This same process is available for adjustment to returns as far back as 1985,
if the adjustments result from errors or omissions. However, CCRA has the
discretion to accept or reject requests that are made beyond the normal
objection period. Adjustments relating to discretionary deductions, such as
depreciation, will generally be accepted only within the normal objection
period.
