Online Bookkeeping Course Information

Accounting for Non-Accountants is an online course that requires no textbook or live instructor. It is a self-paced tutorial that can be taken conveniently in your own home or office. This course can be completed in about 20 hours, and because it is "self-paced" you are able to stop and continue later.

You will learn double-entry accounting! This means understanding how debits and credits work. Acquiring this skill is the key that unlocks the mystery of accounting.

You will then use this skill to convert physical events, such as selling goods and services, etc., into accounting transactions using the standard accounting journals.

This course will provide you with a core knowledge of how small business financial statements are organized, prepared, and analyzed.

So far we now have over 2,000 enrollees from 30 different countries around the world. Although written in consideration of U.S. accounting rules and tax law, the primary objective of the course is to teach double-entry accounting.

The Double-Entry Accounting Method is Universal

Double-entry accounting originated in Italy in the early 1400’s. Accounting terminology may differ somewhat in various countries, but can be inter-changed without too much difficulty.

Course Content:

There are six phases to the course:

Phase I – Accounting Environment
Phase II – Accounting Principles
Phase III – Accounting Elements
Phase IV – Accounting Tools
Phase V – Accounting Practice Example
Phase VI – Accounting Analysis

This course is for beginners. You will find that its unique teaching approach makes learning accounting much easier than ever before. There is no boring text to wade through. No memorizing monotonous formulas, and no big final exam. Each unit of accounting knowledge is simple to learn and builds on what was previously learned. Just as a house is built “brick by brick”, you will build your house of accounting knowledge one step at a time. As long as you know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, plus, know the difference between left and right, and an increase and a decrease, you meet all the prerequisites for successfully completing this course. Each concept is simply and clearly explained. Your results are progressively measured, so you always know where you are and where you left off.

John Day, Real Life Accounting
John Day, MBA
The course is taught in the format of a seminar. It is a dialogue between a teacher and seven students (you being the seventh). John Day(Instructor) has spent the last twenty plus years in the accounting field and has heard just about every question that can be asked about accounting basics. Using a question/answer format he is able to address and focus on these questions in a way not possible when using a straight text approach. In addition, a dialogue approach helps the subject matter become more personal and lively.
